North Park is located along the north and east sides of Balboa Park. Business districts are found along 30th Street, El Cajon Avenue, and University Avenue. The recent addition of a reconstructed North Park neighborhood sign is in the center of University Avenue near 30th Street. An impressive welcome mat at the West End of El Cajon Boulevard simply proclaims The Boulevard.
North Park is host to the annual Toyland Parade which starts the Christmas season. A neighborhood of the City of San Diego, North Park is one of San Diego's first suburbs, developed when the city began to grow early in this century.
