Nestled in the valleys beyond the shore is the inland community of Alpine, known as the Viejas Stop in the 1800's. The community's most prominent landmark is a rock formation standing 4220 feet above sea level northeast of town. Alpine has a reputation for rustic, rural living. Winding roads, rolling hills and special vistas might best describe this budding community.
